Landon Kelley’s connection to the Winston County High School Yellow Jackets isn’t just about sports; it’s a lifelong bond that shaped his entire experience growing up in Double Springs, Alabama. Indeed, he’s been immersed in the community and its athletic traditions from an early age.
“What I love most is how our whole town rallies behind us. There’s a real connection between the players, the coaches, and the community,” Landon says.
Landon’s love for basketball and baseball has fueled his dedication to excel at Winston County High, where he plays quarterback and linebacker for head football coach Caleb Simmons and left field and third baseman for head baseball coach Jim David Moore.
“I love both of my coaches,” Landon says. “(Coach) Simmons came to us after my sophomore year, and he’s really helped us grow as athletes and as men. And Jim David, he’s been with me since Little League. I’ve known him my whole life.”
Those relationships have shaped Landon’s overall experience, creating a sense of loyalty and responsibility he carries with him in everything he does.

Landon’s athletic accomplishments speak for themselves. He earned AHSAA All-State honors as a linebacker, was named All-Region Offensive Most Valuable Player, and was a first-team Daily Mountain Eagle Elite quarterback. His versatility and leadership have made him a standout player, but it’s his character that truly shines through.
In the classroom, Landon excels at WCHS with a 4.21 GPA and leads by example by participating in several school activities. As president of Key Club, member of Beta Club, and an active participant in Scholars Bowl, Landon shows that leadership is about making a positive impact wherever you are. His love for math has shaped his future aspirations, and he’s already looking ahead to a career in mechanical engineering.
Landon’s sense of belonging to the Double Springs community fuels his commitment to the Yellow Jackets, and it’s clear that his loyalty to his school and town will extend far beyond high school. TG
