Talegate Featured Athlete: Daleigh Griffin, Shelby County High School

One thing Daleigh Griffin isn’t lacking is confidence on the basketball floor.

“No, no. No hesitation whatsoever,” says Daleigh when asked if she is at all hesitant to step up and launch a three from beyond the arc.

The point guard/wing player for the Shelby County Wildcats in Columbiana, Ala., may be in the middle of the basketball 2024-25 season, but she’s also laying the groundwork for a future career as a hair and makeup stylist.

The daughter of Chanda and Brandon Tucker, Daleigh carries a 3.9 G.P.A. in the classroom at Shelby County High and serves as a reporter for the Future Farmers of America (FFA). She says her favorite subject is math and loves the leadership opportunities at the school. She is set to graduate in May 2025.

Coach Teneal Smith says of the Wildcat star, “I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Daleigh for three years. She is a great team leader and has a love for the game of basketball. She works hard and her commitment to the game has shown through the years.”

Outside of school and sports, Daleigh says her hobbies are hunting and fishing and her dream car/truck is a GMC Denali. An athlete she says she’d like to meet is Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young.

Finally, when asked about her path to becoming a stylist, Daleigh offers, “I’m going to go to Paul Mitchell, and I’m going to get my cosmetology license, and then I’m going to go work with my aunt on (Highway) 280.”

Similar to taking a clutch shot on the basketball court, Daleigh exhibits confidence in chasing her dreams, with no hesitation whatsoever. TG
