Talegate Featured Athlete: Cadariyus Love, Andalusia High School

Two years ago, in a first-round playoff game against Sipsey Valley, Andalusia’s talented cornerback, Cadariyus Love, did something remarkable. He hauled in four—count ‘em four—interceptions in a 43-6 win.

Although it wasn’t a state record, it was enough to cause Love to check the record books. “I didn’t break the state record,” Love says. “The state record, I think, it’s seven.”

This season, Love was a major contributor for head coach Trent Taylor’s team, logging 60 total tackles, four interceptions, six tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one quarterback hurry. He also scored two touchdowns and had two pass breakups for the Bulldogs.

But the Mr. Do-It-All in football (he also plays wide receiver, safety, kick returner, punt returner, and on the kickoff team) is every bit as good on the basketball court. This season, the senior guard is averaging 11 points per game, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game for head basketball coach Tyler Blackwell. In 2024, he was an All-Area selection in 4A Area 3.

When asked if he prefers point guard or shooting guard, Love says, “I’m more of a shooter. I’d rather somebody bring it down the court and find me.”

Perhaps there could have been no better school for Love to thrive than AHS, and because of that, he has nothing but praise for the sports culture at Andalusia. “It’s an amazing school with a great program and amazing coaches you can build true bonds with,” he says. “My teammates play a big part—a huge part—in making my experience a lot better.”

Placing a high premium on his studies as a means for future success, Love carries a 3.3 GPA in the classroom and plans to play sports at the college level while pursuing a degree in health.

Love says his favorite restaurant is Olive Garden and his go-to snack is purple Doritos with queso cheese dip and a purple Powerade. In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games like 2K, Fortnite, and Roblox, which he describes as a “sleeper.”

As Love concludes his high school playing career, everyone should stay tuned to see what college eventually intercepts this two-sport star. Regardless of where he ends up, it’s sure to be a great pick. TG
