In 1978, the group Peaches & Herb released the chart-topping single “Reunited.”
Reunited and it feels so good…
Though the song is about a couple that has broken up and gotten back together, there is a similar theme of reuniting that has become a storyline on the UNA basketball team.
Jacari Lane and Taye Fields, two players who helped Lee High School in Huntsville to a 5A state title, are garnering accolades in the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) as basketball players for the UNA Lions. Last week, Lane earned ASUN Player of the Week for the second straight week, while Fields was named ASUN Newcomer of the Week.
Lane posted 38 points across two games, including 18 points in an 86-69 home win over Charleston Southern and 20 in a loss against Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, Ca. The LMU performance marked Lane’s fourth 20-point outing of the season and the 14th time in his career. Overall, the junior guard has won five ASUN Player of the Week awards, including three this season.
Fields, a senior guard who transferred to UNA from Division II Missouri Western State, also made a strong case for player of the week in his own right, averaging 16.5 PPG and 6.0 RPG in the two games. Against Charleston Southern, Fields notched his 100th career collegiate game and scored the 1,000th point of his career. His hot shooting (10-for-12) helped the Lions defeat the Buccaneers, who compete in the Division I Big South Conference.
The Lions head into the New Year with an 8-5 record — tops in the conference and tying the best non-conference season since UNA’s transition to Division I in 2018. Lane paces the Lions with a 16.2 points per game average, while Fields averages 9.6 points and 6.6 boards.
Conference play begins for UNA next Thursday, Jan. 2 against Bellarmine (KY) at 6 p.m. inside CB&S Bank Arena. TG
