Four-time Alabama All-American Retires from Softball

With the conclusion of the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Softball championship season on Sunday, Alabama softball alum Haylie McCleney will retire from the sport. This follows a decade competing with Team USA, a number of years in the professional ranks, and a record-setting run with the Crimson Tide softball program from 2013-16.

A graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School, McCleney helped lead the Tide to a 2014 SEC regular season championship and a three Women’s College World Series appearances. And out of all the prolific players to come out of the Alabama softball program, McCleney finished as the program’s career leader in batting average (.447), on base percentage (.569) and triples (16), and is ranked in the top three in runs scored (2nd – 279), walks (2nd – 199), stolen base percentage (2nd – .994), doubles (3rd – 57) and total bases (3rd – 483).

McCleney earned a spot on the USA Junior National Team in 2013 before making the USA National Team roster in 2014, a position she would maintain for the next decade.

She competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, taking home a silver medal while leading the field with a .529 batting average on nine hits across six games.

The Morris, Ala., native was a four-year All-American with the Crimson Tide from 2013-16. TG
