The No. 3 UAH men’s basketball team is set to take on #1 seed and second-ranked Nova Southeastern in the 2025 NCAA Division II South Region Men’s Basketball Championships finals on Tuesday. The game will tipoff at 6 p.m. CT from Rick Case Arena on the NSU campus in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
This is the second meeting in program history between the Chargers and the Sharks in the NCAA South Regional title game. The last meeting was in 2023, with the Sharks winning by a score of 87-62.
As for the regular season series, UAH and Nova Southeastern are tied all time with a record of 4-4. The last meeting came in the 2024-25 season opener, with the Sharks taking a 105-104 overtime victory.
UAH advanced to the finals after defeating #3 seed Florida Southern 97-86 on Sunday. The victory pushed the Chargers’ winning streak to 32 games, the longest active streak across Division II basketball. UAH guard Blake Campbell, who is averaging 16.9 points per game on the season, was the leading scorer for the Chargers with 26 points.
Gulf South Conference Player of the Year and the Chargers’ leading scorer Tommy Murr (21.2 ppg/5.8 apg) has a total of 44 points and 19 assists in the team’s two tournament wins. Luke Burnett and Daniel Saylor have also contributed heavily to the team’s success; Burnett is four triples away from breaking the Division II record for career three-pointers, while Saylor leads the nation in field goal percentage at 73.9 and is third all-time in UAH history with 163 blocks.
These four players have provided the offensive foundation for the Chargers and contributed to the highest scoring average (88.6 ppg) in program history.
Nova Southeastern averages 103.6 points per game and is led by MJ Iraldi (23.6 ppg). The Sharks improved to 32-1 after beating fifth-seeded Lynn 80-72 in the semifinals.
The winner of Tuesday’s game moves on to the 2025 NCAA Division II Elite Eight in Evansville, Indiana, from March 25-29. TG
