Last Saturday, Brayden Walker, the sophomore starting point guard for Athens High School in Athens, Ala., had a historic night in the Golden Eagles’ 92-21 victory against St. John Paul II Catholic. Not only did he set the single game scoring record for the Golden Eagles with 43 points, Walker also smashed the school’s 3-point record, netting 13 shots from long distance.
One way to describe Walker’s game last Saturday—besides lightning hot—is consistent. He made threes in each quarter of the game, including four in both the first and fourth quarters. Altogether, Athens amassed 20 3-pointers on the night, making it the eighth team in the AHSAA to produce 20 or more 3-pointers in a single game. This record was set by Plainview High School in 2017 when it cashed in 25 3-pointers in a win over North Sand Mountain.

Outside of Athens High School record books, Walker’s single game 13 3-point performance ranks tied for fifth in the AHSAA. The number one spot belongs to Fred Turner of Wilcox-Central. In 2011, Turner made an astounding 17 three-pointers in a 96-54 victory against Francis Marion.
