A New Season Begins for Alabama, Auburn Gymnastics

The nationally ranked programs begin season with high hopes

This past Saturday, the No. 17 Auburn women’s gymnastics team began the 2025 season by finishing second in the American Gold Collegiate Classic Saturday, held at Nashville Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The Tigers posted a 195.950, finishing second to top-ranked Oklahoma.

“There is a lot of room for improvement after tonight, but we also had a lot of bright spots as well,” Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. “We have a few growing pains, but nothing to be concerned about. Overall, I’m very happy with the weekend, but we definitely have some work to do.”

Veterans for the Tigers include fifth-year Olivia Hollingsworth, senior Sophia Groth, and sophomore Olivia Greaves. Other team members include Caroline Leonard, sophomore transfer Alex Irvine, sophomore Emma Grace Boyd, redshirt freshman Bryn Bartman and freshman Katelyn Jong.

Next up for Auburn is the 2025 Lone Star Collegiate, held in San Antonio, Tex., where the Tigers will face No. 20 Arizona State, No. 21 Penn State, No. 24 Maryland, and Temple.

Sixth-ranked Alabama opens its 2025 season on Friday against the North Carolina Tar Heels at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa. Eigtheen gymnasts fill out the 2025 Crimson Tide roster, including six freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors, three seniors and two super-seniors. Three All-Americans – Gabby Gladieux, Lilly Hudson and Chloe LaCoursiere—return for the Tide and two individual SEC individual champions on this year’s team: Shania Adams (uneven bars) and Gladieux (vault).

After facing North Carolina, Alabama will travel to Lexington, Ky., to face the Wildcats on January 17. Throughout the regular season, the Crimson Tide will face 10 teams ranked in the top 15 and plays host to the top-three nationally ranked teams: No. 1 Oklahoma (Jan. 24), No. 2 LSU (Feb. 7) and No. 3 Florida (March 7).

The Crimson Tide is coached by Ashley Johnston, who competed for Alabama from 2009-13 and is in her third season as head coach of six-time NCAA champion program.

The 2025 SEC Gymnastics Championships will be held at Legacy Arena in Birmingham on March 22. TG
