At Northridge High School, senior track athlete William Numnum shines bright as he exemplifies excellence, drive, and leadership. With a passion for competition (and an overflowing trophy case), the Jaguars’ star has shaped a legacy for years to come.

William’s track and field journey began in the seventh grade. Fostered by a love of running, what started as a hobby quickly grew into something much more.
“My mom wanted me to play a spring sport, so I thought ‘Why not track?’ I always liked to run. I was the fastest kid in recess and wanted to test it out.”

Now, as William has collected many remarkable moments on the track, one moment in particular stands out: winning the national decathlon championship at the 2024 Adidas Track Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina.
“That was an unexplainable feeling,” William says. “Definitely my most proud accomplishment.”
Outside of track and field, Williams spends his downtime staying active in any way possible. You’ll often find him working out, playing golf at Indian Hills Golf Course, or simply getting out for a casual run.
When asked what advice he had for younger athletes, William said, “If you can’t control it, there’s no reason to worry.”
This mature perspective speaks volumes to his quiet focus and mental strength. In fact, it’s this maturity and dedication that has impressed Northridge head track coach Jeff Sparks, who has seen William grow over the last three years with the track program.
“William is very goal-oriented, very driven, and expects perfection out of himself all of the time,” he said. “Great performer and athlete.”
Sparks, a former decathlete himself, introduced William to the pole vault his sophomore year. By his senior year, Sparks’ pupil had captured the individual Class 6A boys pole vault state title.

The next step in William’s journey is Ole Miss, where he has committed to continuing his track and field career. With a humble, yet confident outlook and championship DNA, he is bound to make an impact for the Rebels—just as he did at Northridge.
“Representing Northridge has meant everything. It means hard work, dedication, family, and teamwork,” William says.
Whether it’s running, jumping, or shining in the decathlon, one thing is certain: William Numnum’s name is worth remembering. TG
