Larry Blakeney, who served as the head football coach at Troy University from 1991-2014 and was recently announced as a 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Inductee, praised his former players and coaches in a video released by Troy Athletics.
“This is their award,” Blakeney said. “Those are the guys that played and got the job done and listened to us and executed what we threw at them.”

Blakeney won eight conference titles while at Troy, three while the Trojans competed in the Southland Conference and five-straight Sun Bowl championships from 2006-10. He led Troy to five bowl games and seven FCS playoff appearances in eight seasons. His overall record was 178-113-1 and he is the winningest coach in Sun Belt Conference history.
“It’s an amazing thing what a group of guys can do with good information. We had some really great coaches over the years, and you’ve got to give them credit because they were hands-on guys on the field. So, it’s really been a thrill and one I wasn’t expecting, and that even made it sweeter.”

Blakeney will be inducted on December 9, 2025, at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. TG
