Talegate Featured Athlete: Salim London, Hoover High School

Meet one of Hoover High School’s best student-athletes, Salim London.

London, a dynamic shooting guard for the Hoover Buccaneers, has helped lead his team to back-to-back state championships in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Standing at 6-foot-4, and weighing 185 lbs., the senior is ranked as a four-star recruit in the 2025 class and the 128th best player in the nation by 24/7 Sports.

Salim plans to continue his basketball career in college and has collected offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UAB, James Madison (JMU), and Kennesaw State.

Just as he does on the court, Salim shows dedication in the classroom as well, holding a 4.03 overall GPA. He says his favorite class is history.

When asked what has helped him have such a good balance, Salim credits his mother.

“My mom has always been on me about my grades, she has always made it clear to me that student comes first in student-athlete. So, I try and take care of my grades and all my business before it comes to the court,” Salim says.

His mother, Rosalyn, and father, Tarik, have done an outstanding job raising him. After graduation next May, Salim will set his sights on a degree in kinesiology.

Salim says his favorite on-court memory was the Bucs’ state championship two seasons ago. “The first time I won a state championship, it was me, Jarett (Fairley), and Dewayne (Brown). We had just come off a hard season – we didn’t make the playoffs. Just for us to come back the next year and win state, being so young…we were sophomores. It was just a great memory,” he says.

The 2024-25 Hoover Bucs aim to repeat their success this year. With a star-studded roster and the guidance of veteran coach Scott Ware, the sky’s the limit.  TG
