Talegate Featured Athlete: Libby Geisler, Mountain Brook High School

If you’re worried about the younger generation in this country, perhaps Mountain Brook senior basketball player Libby Geisler can appease your concerns. On Sundays, Libby, with the help of her mom, teaches a Sunday school class for kindergarten and first-graders at her church.

“I want to set a good example and be a good role model to them, starting at a young age,” Libby says.

But Libby doesn’t just talk the talk; she demonstrates leadership in the classroom, on the basketball court, and by serving in school activities and organizations. At Mountain Brook, she carries a 4.63 GPA, serves as Vice-President of the National Honor Society, and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the Spanish Club.

Libby will attend Spring Hill College in Mobile after graduating in May and has plans to one day become an orthopedic surgeon—“I’d like to stay in sports, so I think it’d be cool to be in sports medicine,” she says.

On the court, Libby averages 11.0 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game for the 25-6 Spartans. She is a two-time All-Area 10 basketball team selection and was named “Student Athlete of the Week” for the week of 11/17 to 11/23. She says her favorite thing about being an athlete at Mountain Brook is “representing my school in a sport I love and as a team captain, being able to help the younger ones” and the thing she’ll remember more than anything are the relationships she’s built with her teammates along the way.

Here are a few quick hitter questions we posed to Libby to get to know her a bit more:

1. Favorite restaurant: Bricktops

2. Athlete I’d like to meet: Caitlin Clark

3. Hobbies: Hanging out w/friends and family

4. Dream Car/Truck: Range Rover

5. Favorite Time of the Year/Holiday: Christmas

6. What’s your go-to snack: Pretzels

7. Favorite weekend activity: Playing basketball or hanging out with friends

Libby and the Spartans will face Ft. Payne (26-5) in the Northeast Regional Finals in Jacksonville, Ala., on Thursday, February 20 at 2:30 p.m. Win or lose, Libby has cemented herself as a student-athlete the Mountain Brook community can be extremely proud of, and though it will be exciting to see what the future holds for this bright young star, what’s even more significant are the lives she will impact in the process.
