The top 5 players in career free throw percentage in the NBA are as follows: Steph Curry, Steve Nash, Mark Price, Rick Barry, and Damian Lillard. Last year, Cullman High School’shttp://www.cullmanfurnituremarket.com Jake Dorough would have given them all a run for their money.

A six-foot-two combo guard and 91-percent shooter from the charity stripe, Dorough was voted to the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) 6A Boys All-State Second Team for the second straight year while helping his team to 23-9 overall record. In addition, he eclipsed the 1,000-point mark, was voted 2024 Cullman Times “Player of the Year,” was named the Mike Dean Turkey Shootout MVP, and set a school record for three-pointers made in a single game with 10.
“Jake is a special player. He has been a rock for our basketball program, our school, and our community the last 3 years. His hard work, dedication, and love for the game of basketball and being a Cullman Bearcat has been an inspiration to many people,” said Bearcat head coach Stu Stuedeman.
Oh, and did we mention he verbally committed this summer to play for Division II Montevallo?
While a number of schools vied for his services next season, Jake says relationships put Montevallo over the top. “So for me, the coaching staff played a big part in choosing Montevallo. I really like how they connect with their players and get to know them,” he says.

The son of Scott and Kelly Dorough, Jake has a 4.0 in the classroom and says that his favorite school subject is history. He’s involved with the Interact Club and plans to go to work for his dad’s company after he graduates from college.
In his spare time, Jake loves to golf, fish, hang out with friends, spend time at the lake, and turkey hunt.
Looking at the 2024-25 competition, Dorough cites Buckhorn, Clay-Chalkville, and Thompson as formidable opponents, but the first team he mentions is a rival that looks very similar to Cullman and which the Bearcats will face in a home-and-home come January.
“Jasper will be a big game—they are in our area. They should have a great team this year,” Dorough says.
Cullman opens the season on Thursday, November 7 at home against Brewer. Look for Jake to make an impact as the Bearcats try to replicate their state title run from the 2021-22 season. TG
