Talegate Featured Athlete: Brooke Hallman, Auburn High School

Starting sports at a young age can shape a person’s entire life, building skills that go beyond the game itself. This rings true for Auburn High School athlete Brooke Hallman, whose flag football career began early on through her church’s flag football league. Participating in the league fostered a love for the sport that eventually helped Brooke and her team to capture an Alabama High School Association (AHSAA) state championship in 2022.

When Auburn High School introduced its own flag football team during Brooke’s freshman year, her competitive spirit drove her to join. That early exposure to the sport sharpened her instincts, and she quickly became a key player for the Tigers.

Now balancing three sports—flag football, basketball, and track—Brooke exemplifies what is means to be a dedicated student-athlete at Auburn. She plays combo guard in basketball for head coach Courtney Pritchett, plays quarterback and safety in flag football for head coach Alison Link, and throws javelin on the Auburn track team for head coach Reginald Smith.

The daughter of Nicole and Justice Hallman, Brooke says she has developed a routine to prepare for each competition: “If it’s a home game, I’ll walk around for little bit, pray, and then go back in the locker room to start getting ready for the game,” Brooke says. This pre-game ritual allows her to center herself, ensuring that she approaches each sport with confidence.

Her intense drive to succeed is matched by a strong work ethic in the classroom, which positions her as a leader both on and off the field. Brooke carries a 3.8 GPA and says her favorite subject is math. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is set to graduate in May of 2025. Her success is not by accident; it is a result of countless hours of practice, rigorous training, and an unwavering mindset that pushes her to be the best. “For me, it is just prioritizing…if I have practice after school, then I know when I go home, I have to first get my homework done,” she says.

Brooke is equally passionate about her future beyond high school. She plans to pursue college basketball and study political science with the goal of becoming a lawyer. Outside of sports and academics, she enjoys spending her weekends at church.

Whether mastering a new play on the football field or preparing for her legal career, Brooke Hallman is an athlete with an unstoppable drive—and a bright future ahead. Her ability to balance her passions with her long-term ambitions is a testament to the strong foundation she’s built, both in sports and academics. TG
