Upgrades have been made to Old Gym, a student-athlete weight room at the University of Montevallo, the UM athletic department announced on Wednesday.

The renovations will allow for greater flexibility and efficiency across the entire department. “These upgrades are going to be essential in our ability to effectively train all our teams,” said Montevallo Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Blake Klotz, “We can now train multiple teams at the same time, something we have not been able to do previously.”

Six new double-sided weight racks were added, bringing the total up to 12 racks. A turf floor has also been added, allowing an additional 2,500 sq. ft of workout space or for various uses.

“With over 600 athletes, expanding the weight room was a must on our list,” said Vice President for Athletics and Special Programs Mark Richard. “Thank you to our donors and university administration for helping us continue to excel and provide one of the best weight rooms in Division II.” TG
