Huntingdon Captures CCS Title

The Huntingdon College men’s basketball team (22-6, 8-4 CCS) recently won the Collegiate Conference of the South tournament. In the first round, the No. 3-seeded Hawks defeated No. 6 Piedmont by a score of 71-67 on Huntingdon’s home floor. In the second round, Huntingdon traveled to Maryville, TN, to face No. 2 seed Belhaven in the CCS semis. Again, the Hawks came out on top with a final score of 78-66.

Huntingdon then faced top-seeded Maryville on their home floor in the championship game. Leading 48-44 at the half, Huntingdon held on for a 93-92 victory over the Scots. BJ Brown led the Hawks with 25 points, while Nate Johns chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Keyshawn Dickey added 11 off the bench, and Ray’Quan Taylor scored 10.

Three Hawks – Brown, Johns, and Martise Jackson – were named to the CCS All-Tournament Team with Brown winning MVP honors. Johns also reached a milestone against Maryville, passing the 1,000-point mark for his career.

The NCAA Division III selection show will air today at 11:00 a.m. CDT to determine who the Hawks will play in the tournament. TG
