Auburn’s Koivun Named Finalist for Ben Hogan Award

Auburn sophomore and golf sensation Jackson Koivun has been named a top-three finalist in the Ben Hogan Award for the second season in a row. The award is annually given to the top player in men’s NCAA golf.

This year’s finalists are the top three in the World Amateur Golf Rankings: Luke Clanton, a semifinalist for the second year in a row and first-time finalist, who plays for Florida State; David Ford, a three-time semifinalist and first-time finalist, who is a member of the North Carolina golf team; and finally, Koivun, who won the award last year.

Koivun is looking to become the third individual to win the award twice, joining golfers Jon Rahm and Ludwig Aberg.

After becoming the second freshman in history to win the award, Koivun has not slowed down. He is averaging a score of 68.90 and has claimed nine top-20 finishes out of his 11 starts.

Koivun also repeated as the SEC’s individual champion in April, the first golfer to achieve that feat in 50 years. He recorded his third individual win earlier in the season in the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio.

The winner of the Ben Hogan Award will be announced on Monday, May 19, at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

The NCAA Auburn Regional kicks off at Auburn University Club on May 12. TG
