Alabama’s Lemngole Breaks NCAA Record

Alabama track and field star Doris Lemngole was named the National Athlete of the Week, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday, after breaking the women’s 5,000-meter NCAA record at the Sharon Colyear-Danville season opener in Boston, Massachusetts.

The standout sophomore shaved 0.22 seconds off the previous national time, crossing the finish line in 14:52.57. Lemngole edged out Hilda Olemomoi of Florida, who ran a 14:52.84.

The announcement marks her second national weekly honor in five weeks and her third during the 2024 calendar year. Her previous awards occurred on Nov. 4, 2024 (cross country), April 22, 2024 (outdoor track and field), and Oct. 2, 2023 (cross country).

Lemngole, a sophomore, lists her hometown as West Pokot County, Kenya. TG
