Troy men’s golf sits in Fourth After Day One of the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship

The Troy men’s golf team shot 12-under par on the first day of the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship, held at Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Miss. The Trojans are currently in fourth place behind No. 3 Ole Miss, No. 32 Mississippi State, and No. 15 Alabama.

The first day of the tournament included two rounds (36 holes) of play. Troy shot a 564 total, matching its second best 36-hole finish of the season.

Jake Springer led the Trojans at 5-under on the day, including a score of 7-under over through the final 27 holes.

Other members of the team also performed well. Brantley Scott and Lee Poppell are tied at 4-under par. Scott shot a 68 in the morning round and par in the afternoon round. Poppell shot back-to-back 70 rounds. Pablo Gracia recorded four birdies to finish 1-0ver par, while Nick Fowlkes shot 7-over.

Overall, the Trojans led the tournament with 124 pars and the second-fewest bogeys or worse with 24.
