Trussville’s Zeke Smith has been tabbed as the new Chairman of the Board of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
Smith enjoyed a career of over 40 years with the Alabama Power Company, retiring in 2023 as Executive Vice President of External Affairs. He also served as Chairman of the Alabama Power Foundation’s Board of Directors. Throughout his career, he served on the boards of the Business Council of Alabama and the Birmingham Business Alliance.
Smith received his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Auburn University and earned his Master of Business Administration from Samford University.
He serves on the Bryant-Jordan Foundation Board, the Auburn University McCrary Institute Advisory Council, and the Auburn University Board of Trustees.
In addition, Smith is Chairman of the Alabama State Port Authority Board of Directors, and formerly served on the Samford University Board of Trustees.
In past service to the state, he was appointed as a member of the Alabama Innovation Commission and President of the Commission Advisory Council. Smith was also appointed to the Alabama Workforce Council serving as chairman.
Smith is a 2014 graduate of Leadership Alabama and was inducted into the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame in 2019.
Smith and his wife, Darlene, have three children and seven grandchildren.
Smith replaces Mr. Edgar Welden, who served as Chairman for over 20 years and will now serve as Board Chairman Emeritus.
“I am honored to serve with our staff and board to continue building on the legacy of leadership Edgar provided,” said Smith. “He helped establish the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame as one of the finest sports halls of fame in the country.” TG
