Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is turning in a remarkable season, leading the Crimson Tide to an 8-1 record while throwing for 2,461 yards and 21 touchdowns against only one interception. On Tuesday, Simpson was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, presented to the most outstanding player in college football.
Simpson, a redshirt junior, has completed 198 of his 296 passes (66.9 percent) on the season while adding 55 rushes for 87 yards and two touchdowns. His 21 passing touchdowns leads the SEC, and he is one of only two quarterbacks in the nation to throw for 20-plus touchdowns and 2,400 yards with one or fewer INTs.

Finalists for the award will be announced on November 27, and the winner will be announced on Dec. 11 as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Simpson looks to be the sixth Maxwell Award winner for the Crimson Tide since 2013. The other winners are: AJ McCarron (2013), Derrick Henry (2015), Tua Tagovailoa (2018), DeVonta Smith (2020) and Bryce Young (2021).
The talented arm of this year’s semifinalist will be on display this Saturday as Alabama faces Oklahoma at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. TG
