Orange Beach High School Senior Daigle Wilson doesn’t know what it feels like to not win a state championship in softball. “No sir, we do not,” she says, when asked if the Makos plan on losing out on a state title this season.
Back in the spring, the Makos (46-1) won their fourth state championship in a row by taking down Brooks High School in the class 4A finals, held at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama. This season, the team is eager for more.
“We are definitely still very stacked,” Wilson adds. “We lost two girls last year, but we still have a lot of returners, so we are excited about what this season has for us.”
Wilson, an Auburn softball commit and Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) All-State selection, is currently ranked as the #21 player in the country by Extra Innings Softball and #20 by Perfect Game. She is coached in softball by Shane Alexander and also participates on the school’s bowling team under the tutelage of coach Phill Clemons. In addition, she plays travel ball for the Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier, winner of two Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) National Championships.
Daigle says her favorite subject at OBHS is math and she carries a 4.1 GPA in the classroom. Her school activities include National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
At Auburn, Daigle plans on pursuing a business degree and potentially going into the fashion industry. And though there have been a number of schools in the mix for the high-level recruit, Daigle says that Auburn was always the frontrunner.
“I knew Auburn was where I wanted to be,” Daigle smiles. “Auburn just felt like home.”
The daughter of Rebecca and Matt Wilson, Daigle is set to graduate from Orange Beach High School in May of 2025. She hopes by the time she heads to the Plains, she still won’t know what it feels like to walk off the diamond without a state title. TG
