University of Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has been selected as a finalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced on Wednesday.
Milroe, a redshirt junior originally from Katy, Texas, is one of 16 finalists for the Campbell, and will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.
According to a press release from the NFF, the William V. Campbell Trophy is “college football’s premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary leadership.”
The trophy is named in honor of the late Bill Campbell, an All-Ivy League player and the captain of Columbia’s 1961 Ivy League championship team who later became the CEO and Chairman of Intuit.
All 2024 trophy finalists will be recognized on December 10 at the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas with the winner being announced that night. If Milroe is selected as this year’s honoree, the scholarship will increase to $25,000.
Six former Alabama players have been finalists for the Campbell. They include: Johnny Musso (1971), Randy Hall (1974), Steadman Shealy (1979), DeMeco Ryans (2005), Greg McElroy (2010) and Barrett Jones (2012).
Jones is the Crimson Tide’s only winner in program history.

Milroe is two-time team captain who has helped Alabama to two College Football Playoff appearances and a pair of Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships. He has accumulated 66 total touchdowns to date, throwing for 4,894 yards and 42 scores while rushing for 1,181 yards and 24 touchdowns.
In addition, he graduated cum laude in December 2023 with a 3.52 grade-point average and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports management. He earned a spot on the President’s List and Dean’s List multiple times while at the Capstone and was selected to the SEC Academic Honor Roll on three occasions. In 2023, Milroe was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
A consistent contributor to the Tide’s community service efforts, Milroe volunteers his time in both the Tuscaloosa community and his hometown of Katy. Lastly, he represented the university at the joint meeting of the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
“We are thrilled to announce this year’s finalists for the Campbell Trophy®,” said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. “These exceptional young men embody an unwavering commitment to excellence in all areas of their lives, from the classroom to the football field. They truly represent the best of college football, and we know they have only begun to reach their potential.” TG
